Introduction of  Learning Management System

   Learning Management System or better known as ‘Learning Management System’ (LMS) is a software application for administration, documentation and reporting of training programs, classes and online activities, e-learning programs and training rates.

Learning Management System is a pioneering project based on cooperation between the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and Mampu. MAMPU has pioneered LMS Meaning under the Open Source Software (OSS) initiative.

    LMS can be divided into two categories, namely ‘proprietary’ and ‘open source’. An example of a commonly used proprietary LMS meaning is blackboard  while an example of an open source LMS is Moodle.  It is widely used because it is free and can be modified.

The LMS at SPIN is an interactive teaching LMS and learning management system used by students and lecturers. The presentation of information to students is virtual because students only need to press or click a link on the computer screen and does not require much cost.

8.2 Characteristics of Information Management System.

The main envy of LMS meaning is that learning can be done anywhere and anytime. This allows students to manage their own time more effectively and productively. LMS involves cost -effective use. This effective online

learning allows students to explore new information through digital libraries or websites. Through the use of LMS, students have the opportunity to discuss and share information with experienced experts or lecturers from the university or any area simply by using email.

Some of the main features of the LMS are as shown:

8.2.1 Post course materials online.

  • Most LMS provide pre -programmed buttons for syllabi or course content, course schedules and course materials associated with specific lessons such as reading copies and ‘power point slides’ from lectures.
  • Track student progress through assessment features.
  • Enables instructors to give quizzes and tests online and an online grade book where instructors can place student grades.

8.2.2 Discussion boards

  • Instructors and students can discuss the reading and continue the lecture discussion in a formal lecture session.

8.2.3 Other communication tools (Other communication tools)

  •  Allows instructors to send announcements to the class and communicate with students in person. Lock box for students  where students can store class materials in a safe place i.e. whether the presentation will be held in class then make a second copy for class assignments in a safe place.

Among the other features of the LMS are as follows:

  • Centralize learning and teaching strategies.
  • Using self -service and guided self -service.
  • Install and deliver the core of learning quickly and precisely.
  • Incorporates training methods on a scalable web -based platform.
  • Mobile support and standards.
  • Adapted to content and allows reuse of knowledge.
  • Increase unscheduled class meetings.
  • Increase distance education classes taught through other media and offer hybrid classes.

8.3 Use of Information Management System (LMS)

 LMS is used to facilitate the delivery or delivery of courses online. In addition, LMS has been widely used in universities and colleges around the world. Not to forget, MS also plays an important role in academic activities, teaching and learning and administrative management system in the world of education.

Next, LMS is conducted to support academic departments, organizations and other projects to achieve teaching goals at the tertiary level. The use of LMS aims to increase the amount of feedback received and be able to improve the situation as a result of such feedback.

 Therefore, it can be concluded as a whole about the use of LMS to individuals and organizations as follows:

  • Facilitate e-learning with an online learning platform.
  • Provides a branded portal for e-learning delivery.
  • Combines all training information into one system.
  • Review and report on the status of training programs in an organization.
  • Able to reduce training costs through various means such as enabling e-learning cost savings (less travel, accommodation, overtime, and lower teaching costs) as well as streamlining the administration of training programs in each organization.
  • Improve compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Allows students and lecturers to discuss easily to access learning materials.

8.4 Importance of Information Management System.

Information is useful if the information is accurate, up -to -date and easily accessible. The implementation of the LMS system brings many benefits to students as well as organizations. Clearly, now, a systematic information management system can play an important role in learning.

The use of manual information management systems is no longer appropriate in the age of technology. This is because inefficient management can demoralize work among staff. Therefore, LMS needs to be spread as widely as possible.

The importance of LMS in the execution of daily tasks and one’s learning is as follows:

  • perform their duties efficiently.
  • increase their enthusiasm for work and study.
  • no longer bothered by management problems.
  • educational information, more focus can be given to matters related to teaching-learning.
  • information sharing in a large group.
  • a systematic system for organizing a program.
  • information can be edited and removed in a convenient way.
  • can be used many times for a long period of time.
  • information that is updated and consistent because the information it uses comes from the same source.
  • time saving because the required information can be obtained quickly and the information does not need to be retyped.
  • improve organizational efficiency
  • more secure data storage.
